  • Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) :
CAS is one of the core components of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. CAS is designed to encourage students to engage in a balanced program of activities outside of their academic studies. Here's what CAS entails:
Creativity: This involves activities that encourage students to express themselves creatively. It can include things like art, music, drama, writing, or any other creative pursuit.
Activity: This component encourages physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. It might involve participating in sports, outdoor activities, or fitness programs.
Service: CAS requires students to engage in community service or volunteer work. This is intended to promote a sense of social responsibility and community involvement.Students are expected to participate in a range of activities in each of these areas, with a minimum number of hours for each. They also need to reflect on their experiences and how they've grown through their involvement in CAS activities.
CAS is designed to help students develop personally and socially while complementing their academic studies. It's an essential part of the IB Diploma Program.
  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
TOK is a core component of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. It's a course that explores the nature of knowledge and how we come to know what we claim to know. TOK encourages critical thinking and reflection on the ways knowledge is acquired, evaluated, and used in various disciplines. Students often engage in discussions and written assignments, exploring topics like the role of perception, language, emotion, and reason in shaping our understanding of the world.
TOK also requires students to complete an extended essay and a presentation, connecting their chosen topic to the course concepts.
  • Extended Essay (EE)
EE is a significant independent research project that's a core component of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. It's designed to allow students to engage in in-depth research and exploration of a topic of personal interest. Here are some key points about the IB Extended Essay:
Topic Choice: Students choose a research question within one of the IB's approved subject areas, such as history, biology, literature, etc. The topic should be of personal interest and should be sufficiently focused to allow for in-depth research.
Research: Students conduct extensive research on their chosen topic. This often involves reading academic sources, conducting experiments (if applicable), and gathering data.
Supervisor: Each student is assigned a supervisor, usually a teacher at their school, who provides guidance throughout the research process.
Length: The extended essay typically ranges from 3,000 to 4,000 words, although there's no strict word limit.
Assessment: The essay is assessed externally by IB examiners. It's graded on a scale of A to E, with the A being the highest.
Reflection: In addition to the essay itself, students are required to submit a reflection on the research process, discussing challenges they faced, what they learned, and how they would approach the project differently if they were to do it again.
The Extended Essay is an excellent opportunity for students to develop research skills, explore a topic they're passionate about, and experience a taste of academic research. It's also a valuable component of the IB Diploma, as it contributes to the overall points students can earn toward their diploma.
